Spastic chicks

Has anyone ever had 3 week old chicks scared of their own shadow? Is this normal? It seems whenever there is movement of any kind around them they run as if their lives depended on it. It has gotten worse the older they get. Is this just an anti predator behavior?

Yes it sounds pretty normal. Since chickens are vulnerable from so many different types of predator attacks, they are conditioned to run first, ask questions later.

my 10 day old peeps make the "OMFG BIG SCARY HAND" noises and run away when I reach in to change their feeder and waterer

I have one out of 9, my little dominique chick that will actually hop into my hand

I'm gonna try to make friends with some scrambled egg this weekend

Yes they are all spastic like that at that age.
