Spaulding white peafowl breeder story

Quote:
Ya know i don't have a cell phone or home phone anymore, didn't use them when i did,now i have an extra 1656 dollars a year.

I wish that I could save that extra money by not having phones but I need a cell phone so that my customers have some way to contact me to purchase, eggs, chicks, ducks, rabbits, geese and turkeys. Not sure how I could get by without having a cell phone.

I ditched the home phone years ago.

I know a man down the road from me that had several white spauldings. I will get my husband to check with him and see if he still does. He won't care if I go take pics for you.

Steve remember a high % spalding pied or silver pied, will produce 25% white spalding, like chickenzoo bird. Myself I don't breed white to white, as I got plenty of white from my pied pens.

Not taking up for them, but when you get 10 or 15 emails a week wanting to see pictures of your birds and you go out spend all that time trying to get a good shot for the people then sending it to them with no response back from any of them (who's the scamer?) you get to the point where you don't want to waist your time taking pictures. If they email and also call me then I am more then happy to send them photos.

We have 7/8 White Spaldings but I don't have photos of them because they are loaned out to another breeder at this time.

I understand your point but just speaking from my own experience as a seller and buyer, I make sure I have pics of any animal or product that I am selling. I take pride in my small hobby farm business, so I will send pics to people. I also will post pics on my hobby farm website of the animal that they are interested in. If they don't repond or buy then that's ok. It's part of having a business and being a business owner. Everyone that contacts me may not want to purchase my product and that's ok. I am the same way as a buyer. If I don't like what I see, then I won't buy it but I will thank the seller for his/her time. When I get to the point that I don't want to take pics or get as much info to the buyer, then I may as well close shop. It's called good customer service. But that's just my opinion. Reputation means a lot.

If I respond back to someone who is looking for a certain animal (like Steve_of_sandspoultry), I make sure that I have a pic to send the potentional buyer. I would look like a dumb dumb responding back to the potential buyer or Steve_of_sandspoultry with no pics. DUH !!!!!!!!!!! Why would I respond back to Steve and not have pics. That is STUPID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just a good business practice for me to send pics. I have had a person contact me that lived 200 miles away. She was looking for a certain type breed of chicken and I had it. She asked if I had pics and I didn't have any but I took the time to go outside and take a pic of my chicken. I sent it to her and we communicated back and forth and she wanted to buy chicken. She drove down to my house and picked them up. She said that she appreciated that fact that I did send pics and email to her. The pics are how I sealded the deal.

This peson that responded to Steve_of_sandspoultry is a breeder and wanted $250.00. A breeder? ! and they dont have pics?

Could the breeder have directed Steve to a website? (By the way, many websites are FREE. I know this because I have a FREE WEBSITE) A breeder and no pics? I can't wrap my mind around that.

I also have a website and if I have anything for sale I post pictures and prices there, but like I said if they call then you know they are looking for birds. Me as a buyer I email if they respond back I will get there # call them and then go see the bird unless I know the person that has them then I just call. Anyone can call me when ever they want my phone # is listed on our website.

We do take Pride in our Business and our Reputation is pretty good also (anyway it was).

Just because this person is listed on the UPA Breeders page don't make them a breeder all you have to do is become a UPA member for $30.00 then pay another $25.00 a year to be posted on the breeders website list.

If you're looking at the hard-copy of the UPA book, it's called Membership Directory. Not everyone in there is actually a breeder. In example, I'm listed in the directory but I'm not a breeder - we have 9 birds of different varieties and don't hatch chicks. If we have a neighbor who wants the fertile eggs, they are welcome to them. But we're not "breeders", and there are other UPA members like us. We get calls all the time from people wanting to buy birds or chicks, so I refer them to others depending on what they want and if they are comfortable with shipping. If they are new to peafowl, I refer them to someone who will help teach them about the birds.

As far as not having photos of the birds for sale, that makes absolutely no business sense. Like Steve, I'd want photos unless I know the breeder and their reputation.

Featherhead I thought you were a breeder! Ha I had no idea! Well I am listed in the US breeders page even though I haven't even had peachicks before and am not selling anything yet...But I only have my name and the city I live in listed so no contact info until I am really selling something.

So far we have only bought peafowl that we have seen in person. We go get the peafowl since we have a few small breeders close by that we can just drive to and get birds. I think if I ever were to ship some I would really want pictures even if I knew the person really well I was getting them from just because don't you want to know what you are getting? I liked being able to say to one breeder exactly which yearling peacock I wanted...I said the tall one, she caught him, and he is just PERFECT! If I let her catch the other one like she was going to then I don't think I would have gotten as great and silly of a peacock.
