Our jumbo pekin has a lame leg. She is able to get around by using her one good leg and flapping her wings. We've taken her to the vet and he confirmed it is a deformity, not injury and there is no way to "fix" her. The problem we are having is that with the way she moves around, she has worn off a patch of feathers on her chest from where it drags on the ground. Her skin is exposed in that area. Does anyone know of a bib or some kind of protective covering for a duck's chest so she can scrape it on the ground without injuring herself further?

If you can do minor sewing you might be able to make a sling of some kind similar to the chicken saddles except this would fit under instead of over the back. Then you could contact Nettie who makes diaper harnesses and shoes for ducks/geese and she maybe able to make something for you. in the mean time maybe using the vet wrap and some non stick gauze you could cover her chest for the time being. Or those ace bandages over the gauze. you'd just have to make sure not to wrap to tight. Heres Netties link

Is it possible to make some sort of a "brace" for her bad leg? My father had a stroke and wears a brace on his weak side, it enables him to walk pretty well. If he does not wear it, the leg cannot support him. Just a thought...................
