My chickens eat the shells most of the time if i pick them right off the plant-otherwise i just buy shelled (for me) and they get a handful

I was SO disappointed the other day. I planted and grew sunflowers this year specifically as chicken treats. I had three lovely, huge seed heads that I cut off and put on top of the run to dry. I pulled off a handful of the seeds the other day and dropped them into the run expecting chickens to go mad for them...but no. They turned their beaks up at them and didn't eat a single one. I guess I'll have to eat them myself.
