Nothing yet :/ they should be hatching anytime, I didnt write down the dates on the first couple eggs i let her sit on, but it should be any day now...The one poult i got is doing great tho, i have her mixed in with my 20 chicks. When are yours due to hatch?

Hey Tinzman.. you'll never believe what happened to me!!! I was still trying to figure out if I had any viable eggs. She has laid 20 over a long period of time and has been broody but she actually started setting (full time), stopped for a week (just setting at night) and then started setting again last week. This weekend I planned to candle while she was off the nest to TRY to figure out what was going on (She had 20 eggs ranging from 35 to 10 days old!) and I was going to secure it better cause her nest box is off the floor and I didn't want them falling out. Well - too late!! I went up tonight and heard peeping cause there was a poult on the floor!!! He was cold but ok and went right back under mama when I put him back up there. I'm worried though because apparently the 6" wall I had built around her shelf/nest area isn't tall enough. These two are FRISKY! And climbing around already!
I wanted to ask what you think I should do? I don't have any other babies I can put them with. I raised a 5 day old poult last year, inside in a home-made brooder. I'd like to leave them with her (wouldn't it upset her to take them away? she's very doting and keeps shoving them back under her lol)... but I'm worried about them falling off or it being a long hatch and them not being in a proper controlled space. Maybe I might need to bring them in to make sure they're safe and have food and water?? Sorry for such a long post - any advice is appreciated!! For now, I tried to secure things as best I could without her lopping a finger off... and I piled the floor high with shavings in case somebody fell again

Please let me know how things have been turning out with your hatch? I don't think you mentioned how many eggs you had, but I sure hope you've got more hatched now!!

Hey there, thats exciting that you have poults hatching :) My nest box that my turkey decided to nest in is off the floor also (about 4 feet). I built some 8 inch walls around the box to keep the poults from falling out when they hatch. So far ive only had 2 hatch out, and have 3 more that should be hatching today or in the next couple days. She has a total of 9 eggs under her right now ranging from 10-28 days old now so the hatching will be spaced out quite a bit. The two that she has hatched i've taken away from her and have them in a brooder in my garage. I was afraid if i left her with the chicks that the eggs in the nest box would be abadoned or she would abandon the 2 poults (since the poults wouldnt be able to get up to the nest box). And having them in them in the brooder i know they are getting the right amount of food and water they need. I was also concerned about the weather, we have been getting nonstop rain here in the northwest so i didnt want them out soaking in the rain. Soooo i'm planning on raising them in the garage, then when they are old enough put them in my 8x8 grow out pen til they are big enough to hang with the big boys.
