I know it's a bit early but i read some threads and some people seem to be good at telling what gender the babies are by tail and wing and patterns? So here's my speckled sussex, 2 weeks old. The shop said it was a pullet but SS are hard to sex so I wanna make sure because I'm getting really attached and even named her. She has a bit of tail and her wings are middish length, but her crown is a bit prominent so I'm doubting it (though some SS pullets have big crowns) also (S)HES GROWING REALLL FAST

I'd stay hopeful, but it'll probably be another month or 6 weeks before I could do anything more than guess (but there may be others out here who know quicker tricks).

What I can ssy is that Speckled Sussex chicks, both pullets and cockerels, do grow very quickly! And a lot of the pullets will have noticable combs as chicks--not giant ones, but enough to make you wonder.

It's easier to spot differences if you have a group of them to compare, but I haven't figured out a reliable way to tell about these chicks this early.

We've got some Specked Sussex chicks hatched around 5/12 bought from TSC as pullets, but I think 1 cockerel snuck in. I should be able to post some pics tomorrow to show you what to expect and/or look for.

Tysm! I wasnt concerned at first since the shop said all their SS were pullets, but then I read about how they're like sorta hard to sex and a lot of cockerels be sneaking into people's orders so now I'm scared lolll

HI here's an updated picture since her wings grew so much in four days

This isn't a great pic, but it's one I already have. I took it last Tues, 6/16, so these babies are just over a month old. I took the pic because I started to notice that one of these is not like the others, lol.

The one I suspect is a cockerel is in front. His comb is little bigger, he's developing wattles, and his tail is stubbier and curlier compared to the others. He also has significant white on his front, which is not definitive, but when combined with the other stuff makes me pretty certain that he's a he.

I'll still get some more pics for you tomorrow. I'm always happy to take chick pics, lol.
