Hi all,

We have some adorable chicks, they are the sweetest little ones we have had so far. They are 10-11 weeks.
Now a few weeks back I did a post about gender guessing for them and a few comments were that the Speckled Sussex's weren't SS which is no problem because I'd actually wanted Buff Orpingtons but the breeder only had one Buff left.
What I'd like to know is what could these pullets be? Even if they are a mixing I'd like to know potential options for breeds if anyone can help?
It maybe it's too early to say because they still have a lot of baby feathers but I'd like to look into possible breeds for them.

Feather close up, I was kind of hoping jubilee Orpington but they are smaller than the buff.

They look like my speckled Sussex did

That's good to know 👍🏼

They do to me but a couple of people said they weren't and I'm not remotely experienced so I thought I'd find out from others what they thought.

I'm not fussed if they are the perfect example of the breed just don't want to say they are X when they are Y

A lot of breeds can look similar as chicks so they might have been confused but they definitely look like Speckled Sussex to me. Especially if that’s what you purchased them as. That’s not always accurate but in this case I think it is.

They look like my speckled Sussex. But if they are still very young I’m wondering if the 1st one might be a cockerel….

Thank you all, it's good to know they are SS and the breeder can remain trusted 😉

TheDawg - it was more along the lines of they are the wrong colour/pattern to be SS which is easy to mix up too. My buff orp is so pale compared to others I have seen it was actually her I was worried about as it was the buff Orp I'd been after when I got the chicks! 😆

SueT thank you for your reply, they are both pullets I think the angle of that photo and the edit I have done on the background have made the comb stand out a bit more.
