My #2 son is emphatic that we have a few Speckled Sussex although most everything we have is a Plymouth Rock of sorts (BBS, Columbian, Partridge). SOOOO, we have 10 eggs in the 'bator due tomorrow of SS eggs. Could someone tell me (on the chicken calculator) what the genetic makeup of the Speckled Sussex is? Is it considered Black or Brown Mottled? Thanks so much

I've been trying to figure that out myself. I thought they were "spangled", but nobody has clarified it for me yet. Don't they look like you could get MF somehow if you crossed them with some color cochin?

BTW I love my SS- definately eye candy.

Speckled in Speckled Sussex is the same gene as spangle.

It's the same gene in spangled a in spangled Old Englsh Game but not the same as spangled Hamburgs.

For a US Speckled Sussex on Henk's chicken calculator you'd need to put in: e+/e+, Co/Co, Mh/Mh, mo/mo.
