Boiled eggs tonight to have with smoked salmon and one of the egg shells developed multiple dark spots about 1/8” , what would explain it ?
The eggs are from Buff Orpington’s and the spots where not there before boiling.

Boiled in with the salmon, same pot same time?
Were spots on the shell or inside the egg, or....?
Need pics of funky eggs.

You didn’t by chance use an older pot that could be aluminum?
Maybe added vinegar to the water also?

boiled in water. Spots on the outside.
Went out of town that day so was not able to take a picture.
One of my pullet eggs shells has always had white calcium spots. Today one of the eggs has purple spots on it so I wondered if I just did not noticed the spots when I boiled the other egg last week.

What causes the purple spots ?

Could very well be.

Pigment and/or bloom.

'Speckled' eggs can happen for several different reasons...very few, if any, of which are a 'problem'.
Can be caused by:
Excess or uneven pigment coating.
Excess or uneven cuticle(bloom).
Excess calcium deposits.
Porous eggs can appear speckled.
Some birds lay them consistently, some only once in awhile.
The pigment or bloom can change appearance when wet, then change back when dry again.

As long as bird is getting a good diet and is healthy in every other way, it is no cause for concern.

A pinkish/purplish tint on light brown eggs is often due to the bloom/cuticle,
which can vary from day to day.

Thanks @aart !!
You answered this perfectly, as always.

I actually have one layer that consistently lays with a weird bloom. You mentioned that they can look different wet.
This one definitely does. Every one of them looks pinkish, when it’s actually a light brown egg. If you hold it in your hand for a minute, just the moisture will cause it to change. Then it changes back when dry again. It’s crazy stuff.

Mine do the same, it’s kind of neat.
