em. Tomorrow I will take pics of my EE mutts...it is hysterical. one I know belongs to one of my BAs it is like looking at a beadred muffed BA too cute. The other 3 are unknown mamas.

I wanted my splash cochin's eggs but I have never caught her laying to know what hers look like. so, folks were telling me their cochin's laid a cream almost white egg so I grabbed 4 of those from my 29 daily eggs...LOL yeah right. Not feather legg or foot in the bunch that I can see. LOL

Eight babies

First Drink for BBS #2

Cannonball - I love this picture...you can see baby and baby's reflection (and the fluffy EE butt in the background). All of the babies are super friendly but this one is a ubber curious baby. Absolutely adorable with his/her crusty head. I did not mess with Cannonball too much as far as clean up because of the trauma of shooting out of the egg, so the top of its head is streaked with a couple dried hard places. The Delawares are by far (so far) the most curious, active, nosey babies in the brooder. Delaware #1 will leap over to my hand if I am playing with another baby.

Messy Babies...I have been changing that paper towel about every 30 minutes but i want to make sure everyone is okay in the poo department, nothing out of place, no gooey or pasty butts.

What I am thinking is my prettiest little EE...the greyish color just amazes me and is really giving me pause as to which of my hens is mama. No idea yet.

Good morning, hon! Well, I'm real bummed out about the other Orp egg, but to me, it looks like you got a BLUE! Unless the light is odd in the pic, that is a blue baby, I believe. You know, you can still have some Cochin crosses, especially the bluish one. I have had Brahma crosses without any leg feathers. My three PoufyHead Sisters are all clean legged, except for one feather stub on Tux's leg. Their sire was a Cochin/Silkie cross!!

Me too. I did not thoroughly examine that egg during candling...there really was no need. There was not a viable baby in there with the egg clear on one half. *sigh* I really do not think I am going to have any more hatch but I will check the delaware again tonight. If there is still movement, I will give it more time. This is just one of those things that is a hard decision. I know that the longer it stays in without hatching, the less its chances are but at the same time, it was moving strong in my hand when I held it, so I do not want to just take it out. It is one of those...'neither path is correct'.

Everyone is doing good this morning but little BBS #2 looks smaller than Cannonball. I am so glad I 'helped' or I may have lost that baby...but s/he is moving around more this morning and looking rested so I think it will be okay, it is a little fighter for sure. I sure hope s/he is blue. I have gone back n forth about it looking at the baby drying...one time it looks dark blue and the next I think....well maybe it is black. lol this morning it looks blue again to me.

LadyHawk, overall a very good hatch, and some cute little chicks you have there!

Looks blue to me, too! You did a great job, now go let you fingernails grow out from all that chewing!

What you may want to do with the Delaware if it hasn't pipped on its own by, say, noon my time, take it out, wrap in a warm moist rag with the aircell top exposed and carefully chip a tiny airhole for it, about the size of a straight pin head, just so it doesn't use all the air in the air cell before it can get out. And put it back in the bator for a few more hours. Then, whether or not you help further is really up to you. Well, all of it is up to your discretion, but that's what we do.

Okay, I shall take little delaware egg into my dark pantry and give it a look see...and check for movement. So, got the warm moist rag and etc down...what do you use to poke the small hole with. I know I do not want to tap it too hard or anything. So instructions please.

Ranchhand, I love my little crew, they are all so sweet. I am thrilled with the results. No nail chewing here but I do keep mine short for doing my beadwork and such. LOL

My little Cannonball and BBS #2 are fighting the chick starter crumbles which seem to be as big as their beaks LOL So, I am bringing out the "chick food grinder" (a coffee grinder bought for grinding the crumbles smaller). LOL They are trying so hard to do what the bigger babies do, including eat. hahahaha I am giving them scrambled egg this morning...they are gonna be soooooooooo spoiled! What do you think about that Cannonball? Ain't that the cutest thing ever....or am I just very partial?

They have had their brooder cleaned, fresh water with vitamins and minerals, fresh ground crumbles, lots of loves and their first scrambled egg. They are a happy content bunch. Speckledhen, I am forever thankful and grateful. I love these babies. Little BBS #2 is going to get a drop of poly-vi-sol (no iron of course) this afternoon if s/he is not getting livelier. I am giving little one some time because it had such a rough time...I am so glad I helped this one.

Should the Delaware hatch, I will post but I see no reason to keep this thread open any longer...I can just put a new short thread up if the delaware hatches. So, feel free to put the kabash on this thread.

Tell Suede and Smoky they have 2 beautiful babies here in Oregon!
