This little chick stands with its neck straight and a look to it's little face that tells me it is a roo in waiting. LOL

Very cute! I can see the red highlights you're talking about, Angie!

I wonder how quickly it will start developing a comb. If it's related to Suede, and it's a cockerel, it's going to have a huge one!

Just a tidbit of info related to orps, you are looking for a medium sized comb. I'm not sure if you care, but just throwing that out there.

Cynthia, I wasn't saying anything about your bird, just orpingtons in general. I don't think he has a huge comb.

I like the big red red comb of the blue and black orp roosters. They are certainly considered large but they are also in proportion to their body size. I think at times Mosby is a little long in the wattle but compared to others his size he is right in line with them all. There are some lines out there that the splash Orps are disappointing in their comb looks and size. The combs are a little small for their size body and the points are hard to get 5.

Yes, its true the standard calls for medium combs on this breed, however, getting the points correctly balanced and the proper number is more important than the size, which I suppose is a bit sujective anyway. Believe me, I know where Suede's faults are. Angie, like you mentioned about Mosby, Suede's wattles are a bit long, just like his sire's, and his back is a bit long as well, but as we all know, it takes alot of years of breeding to produce one perfect example of any breed. Quite an illusive goal!
