Speed up the Molting Process

High protein foods. Eggs, cheese, yogurt, meat and a handful of dry cat food every now and then.
I'm considering switching mine over to gamebird feed while they molt and just offer the oyster shell on the side.

Someone else also recommended I switch them to chick starter since the protein percentage is higher. I would also need to offer the oyster shells for the calcium but I have a ton of starter from the feed mill with a 21% protein compared to 17% in my layer.

Thanks for your response. I hadn't thought about yogurt. I also have some of that but found my chickens do not like it and with the heat it usually goes to waste.

I've been mixing ALPO canned dog food with oyster shell (they don't like oyster shell by itself) along with their scratch feed. Their eggs are stronger and their feathers are much smoother and are growing back flufier nad fuller.

I add chick feed during the winter and molting time it helps with the extra protein. You can give them anything high in protein to help. Also a good quality of grain helps as well.

I would like to speed up multing in my flock too. 4 of my 5 hens have all started and 1 egg a day doesn't keep up with my families consumption so I am looking at having to buy store bought eggs, argh!!! I'm headed out to get high protein foods to try to get them back to laying!
