Spices in coop

:welcome

What are you hoping to accomplish with this?

Be sure to double check that you don't put anything poisonous within their reach. I think most herbs are fine, but it's good to check, just in case.

Definitely, you can put them in their food too. Oregano and thyme are both really good to eat and for their coop. I like lavender a lot in the coop/nesting boxes, my grandma always grew lavender for that, I have some seeds in the fridge now in a moist paper towel. Cinnamon and hot red chili peppers are both common spices that are good for them too. Peppermint is good in their water in the summertime.

Welcome to BYC.

My experience is that when I throw prunings from my herb bed into the chicken run they give them a peck or two and then go eat something else.

Therefore, I save the seasonings for when I'm cooking. :)

I absolutely never put anything into their water without also offering plain, pure water in a separate waterer. Not even the electrolytes that are made for chickens.

Sorry, but despite the fact that you can probably find these claims all over the internet,
it's all speculative and anecdotal.

Best to save the herbs and spices for when you cook the chicken or eggs in the kitchen.
