Getting ready to order some spiral leg bands for my guineas. The recommended size is 9, but wanted to see if anyone actually used them and if, indeed this size worked.
Thanks

I use the standard bands from the feed store. They are 10 cents apiece. I DO NOT use zip ties and WOULD NOT recommend them.

Some of the Guineas have gotten the bands off, but most just ignore them.

I band for the female Guinea Fowl. When they are in the nursery I wait for them to start calling and I single out the females in the confined area of the nursery. It takes a bit of time, but it is worth it.

Most poultry breeders use wing bands. They are permanent and numbered and come in many colors. Many people are skittish about applying them, but it`s really simple and they NEVER get lost, which along with getting too tight through leg growth, seems to be the problem with most leg bands. Guess it depends on why you want to band. Numbered bands are for record keeping........Pop

I'm just going to be using the bands to keep track of breeding/generations on the guineas. I've tryed the ties on my chickens and was not too pleased with them. Guess I will order the #9 spirals and see how they fit. The reason I was asking about size was since some of the recommended sizes, in reality did not fit my fowl. Seems like I've had to use a bigger size on both my quail and chickens, while the gamefowl were a smaller size. Wish I had a feed store that carried them so I could try out a few. Thanks for all the comments.
