I crossed a splash marans hen with a Silver Birchen rooster and am getting blue chicks. I intend to breed the blue hens to a blue birchen rooster we purchased. Is this likely to yield blue birchen birds?

The way I understand it you have two things you are dealing with..

The base color (black, blue, splash) and the birchen modifier.

If you breed splash hens to silver birchen (base color black) you will get 100% blue based chicks given there are no other modifiers in that splash hen you cannot see.

Take those blue birchen females and cross them with your blue birchen rooster you will get the following.
50% blue birchen
25% black birchen
25% splash birchen

Again this is given you have no other modifiers except birchen.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong!

I have just purchased a Splash Marans rooster and a splash marans hen. I have two black copper marans hens. If I breed the Splash rooster to the BCM hens what color should I expect to get? I also have a nice big BCM rooster and if I breed him to the splash hen what coloring can I expect? Thanks.

I have black and splash Silkies.

Can I get a Birchen Marans from crossing them?
