Yep it's possible the lightest is a splash, probable even. The darkest one is the one I'd hedge my bets on but you could be getting a bluer splash in that one as well. Only time is going to tell. Though I will demand weekly photos - lol.

I am also raising a hatch of silkies and only ONE is light enough to possibly be a splash. He has silver/whitish hock and foot feathers and a silver cast to all his down.

In my Sizzles the splash came out the color of your lightest bird or very close. The others went blue or what may be a black with demelanizers. That's still to be determined.

Luck with them...

Isnt the blue gene fun!! You get amazing color variances when breeding blue on blue. For 100% blue chicks though you would need to find a breeder with black roosters on all splash hens or you will get black, blue and splash chicks.

Our county fair is this week (the eldest DS'S first show, we are all very nervous) and they have an Ameraucana that is mostly black except for grey in the rump down. It is listed as a Blue Ameraucana. The one next to it is listed as a Black Ameraucana and he is nicely black all over with that lovely greenish sheen.

Does the presence of any grey at all make a bird a "Blue"?

I am still trying to figure out the line between Black, Blue and Splash. We have five young birds from a Blue and Black Ameraucana flock. There is one I would call light gray and one a very light gray. Sometimes the boys confuse this very light gray one with the Delawares in the same pen, for with the very light gray flecking on her shoulders, she could be a slightly dirty Delaware. I suppose I have to wait a while to see if she is a Splash or a Blue?

I say she, but I have no idea. Sexing Ameraucanas at this age eludes me.
