and 4 others bout a week ago from a guy who breeds em. I'm thinking 4 months maybe??? Would they lay that soon?Pullet - rapidly approaching point of lay.
By the size and colour of her comb and wattles. Young pullets go very red in that area when they are about to lay.How can you tell she's about to lay? I'm new to this and trying to soak up as much info as possible.
I have a younger Maran that his comb is bigger than the others and have been told by Snowbird that he's a he, his comb is red too... So if they are younger say 4-6 weeks old if it turns red they're cockerels and if they are older and their comb turns red that means its a pullet close to laying???Quote: Yes exactly. If the photo of the bird you had posted in your first post had been 7 weeks old, we would all have said cockerel. That's because only cockerels develop such large red combs and wattles early on in life.
I really hope she lays soon, I am so impatient I'm ready to see what my girls will lay!
