I'd agree with Sourland, but for giggles, how old is the bird?

I'm not 100% sure. I bought her and 4 others bout a week ago from a guy who breeds em. I'm thinking 4 months maybe??? Would they lay that soon?

Yes...my Marans were laying by 16 weeks...but that is unusually early. Most breeders say they take average to a little longer than average, and average is about 5 months (20 weeks).

How can you tell she's about to lay? I'm new to this and trying to soak up as much info as possible.

By the size and colour of her comb and wattles. Young pullets go very red in that area when they are about to lay.
