I have a young splash maran (non-hatchery) who has laid her first two eggs...both were about average brown eggs (like any other brown egg layer) with a dark speckled patch on the end. I hope they will darken up all over (she hatched from a reasonably dark egg-maybe a 6 on the maran scale). Is it just because these are her first egg and they will get more full coverage color later? I just thought it was weird...I only hope it doesn't mean she will not have darker eggs that right now [IMG] Any ideas what's up with her eggs?

Relax, I'm pretty sure the eggs will darken up. I had two marans that both started like that but later the entire egg darkened up. So don't worry and if they don't darken up you'll just have tottaly unique eggs![IMG]
    hope this helps![IMG]
