Splash Orp roo with red feathers??!!

DISCLAIMER: I feel compelled to post this as I can see it being a problem. I did NOT get these from anyone on BYC. I purchased these as chicks, not eggs. There are many breeders on here with awesome B/B/S stock....any of which I would be pleased to get eggs from. I also knew that posting this bird could possibly create a mess, but I had to know what I was dealing with so I am making it clear that this is not in anyway a bash on anyone. I am happy with my birds and will simply use this bird in other projects. I think he is cool and unique, and might just create something really neat with him.

LOL...that's just what I was thinking. I hope he puts in a lot of red feathers! Blue wheaton....another set of genes to study...ooy, I'm already getting a headache! Heck...I might breed him to one of my RIR's just to see what I get.

Okay...so would the rest of the group possibly be carriers, as well? Or only the rooster that is visually showing the red? I have several black and a couple very dark blue roos from the same group without any signs of red. Not to mention the splash pullet...ARGH!

I would not use a blue/splash rooster with that breakage in his wings. Just breed the pullets and see what you get . Even if they did carry it in their genes not all chicks would have it. Just something to cull for. Cute bunch you have there.
If you want to use him as a project it would be neat to breed him to a Partridge rock and make a partridge Orpington

Ha ha! He aint's going anywhere. I'm getting psyched about the possibilities he presents. Research, research, research!

Its actually really common for blues to have the rust on them. Especially, if it is a blue to black and blue to blue breeding.

Does that make him also "tainted" for bbs breeding? Just curious...
I was actually hoping to cross my blue with buff first... not for the purpose of red though, because I saw these crazy blue/buff orps all bizarrely patterned, like half/half... I dunno, they were just awesome looking.. can't wait to try!
Here's one of his rusty spots
