splash orpingtons???

I've been researching since last fall for the varieties of chickens I want to try raising for the first time. So I'm a newbie to all of this but already have this feeling of being addicted and can't wait til I get my first assortment of chicks this spring!!
I had it narrowed down to wanting some buff orpingtons, barred rocks and some single comb brown leghorns. Until.......I saw some pic's of some splash (mottled?) orpingtons!!!!

Now I want to add these also to my flock. Problem is I haven't been able to locate any of these.....
Does any one know where I'd be able to obtain some either thru a hatchery or breeder?? Also, any info on this breed is greatly appreicated!!! Thanks in advance for any help on this!!!!

Well I'm sure SpeckledHen is gonna reply here but let me be the
one to break the bad news. They are hard to get!!!! They hatch
from Blue Orps & I lucked out and have 1 Spals Orp Hen.

So, what you have to do is buy a bunch of hatching eggs from SpeckledHen
or BamaChicken and hope for the best. You may get 1 in 10.

Chickenfeed, mottled and splash are two different colors. BamaChicken has some mottleds. I have Blue Orps from which you might get splashes like PC did. Here is a splash cockerel I hatched quite awhile ago-is it this or the darker mottled you mean?

Oh C&*P, I have bene calling my molted a splash!

Guess I should have done my homework better! Just assumed "splash" meant white "splashed" with black. Hmmm....

Speckled, what is te difference between splash and lavender then??? I would have thought that was a lavender.

Lavender is also called self-blue. That means you breed two lavenders, you'll get lavender (they breed true)whereas if you breed two blues, you can get blue, black or splash. I'm not sure yours isnt a splash, Tiff, although in that pic, he does appear more mottled. They vary quite a bit-who were the parents? What color? BamaChicken can tell you more about the differences since she's started in the mottled ones now. The pic I posted is a young bird-he got more of his "splashy" feathers later and did appear almost lavender as a chick, but he is basically a white bird with a few other colored feathers.

Good to know! I dont know who/what his parents are. He came from BYC stock! I got two batchs of eggs, I can't remember which he came from off the top of my head.

I'm thinking Tiff's rooster is a Splash too.. A mottled plummage is black with white V-shaped markings on the tips of some of the feathers (typically one feather out of two over most of the body). In males , the black is highly lustrous: in females , its alittle duller...Thats a quote from Storeys Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds....

I have Splash hens and I would consider him a Splash....

Thanks, Sandy! I couldn't tell from the picture and have only hatched three splashes; since the first two were boys, they left early on. The third is in the brooder awaiting sex confirmation. Tiff's seemed to look similar to Julie's mottled boy in the other pictures so I didn't know for certain.

I know cyn, I saw her mottled boy and thought the same thing. Tuff, a splash, huh?? Now after looking at Cyn's Im just not sure. Doesnt matter to much in the big scheme of things. I know he is an orpington. He is a great roo. Not a single crow!! Just services and protects the ladies! here are some more butt shots...not of me, of the roo!

Not that they are much better. I got some of my eggs from Julie, but like I said, I hatched two batchs and cant remember right now which he came from! Id have to go look it up!
