Splash? What is that?

Ok so I'm new to chickens. Waiting for my first to arrive anyday and loving the BYC forum as an outlet for my anticipation and craving for education.
Can someone tell me what a splash is?

I keep seeing them mentioned but have no idea what they are or why they are special?

Splash is a light blue colored chicken with dark blue or black on it....

Here is my Splash Cochin

I am still trying to figure out if the red on him is acceptable on splash coloring.....

Edited because I found his baby picture here he is at 2 days old...
