Splash?

I have blue and splash marans, so I realize it's a different breed, but the color should have the same genetic basis I think.

Here was one of my splash marans as a baby, for reference on what the color of a splash baby "should" be:

Ok here we go. His first babies are two splash (one never pipped) and four blackish/blue? (One didn't pip). I cannot tell if the blackish ones are black or blue. They look black to me. The one is a silkie mix. The others are pure Cochins. There are two momma's. One is blue the other is a whiteish cream with partridge in the wing feathers. So do you think these are black or blue?

My guess would be that he's recessive white, not dominant blue splash. If he were splash, then his chicks would at least be blue, not black.
