i have a very sm. bantam chick picked them up 4 days ago now and noticed it had splay leg (i think) it is not bad his legs just spread out enough to look like he waddled instead of walked that is slight splay leg right? i thought back and realized the girl i picked them up from had them on flat paper towels in her broader i dont know what she had in the incubator, i put them in my broader with straw and it seems to have lessen since friday. i did go ahead and hobble her today with a band aid... so how long do you leave them on..... she is walking in it, from the moment i put it on, although from pecking at it she keeps tumbling and falling.
So did i do they right thing? did i wait to long? or do something wrong? and advice?

Ive read that you can test their legs by taking the band aid off and letting her stand and see if she keeps them together or if she goes back to the way she was before the hobbles. if she goes back put the hobbles back on.. if she stands start with 30 minutes with hobbles off and let her walk then put the hobbles back on but watch her close when she has them off... any sign of her going backwards replace hobbles asap.... increase the time you leave them off every day..

I had a chick with splay leg recently so ive done alot of reading.. but maybe im wrong hopefully someone with more experience will help.. good luck!!

you can also make the hobbles a little longer so she can practice walking a little better

i put the band aid hobble on this morning and within seconds she was walking in the hobbles is what i meant, she has been walking fine for the last week she just waddles kinda and i'v read it gets worse as they get older so i figured i better hobble her but for how long, do i start with a couple days or a week. I actually just droped them off at my sons preschool cause they are suppose to have them for the next two weeks. but i need to know if i need to go check her in a couple days or if it would hurt to leave it on till next week. like i said it was not bad at all she walk/ran just fine they where just kinda spread a little so that she waddled around instead of "Walked"..... DId i need to hobble her at all? or is it kinda pointless now she is about a week old i think?
