I needed helped a chick hatch last night, she made it out and I left her in the incubator over night. In the morning, I saw that she still was not walking, and it looked like she had splayed leg. Just now I tried putting a bandaid on to hold them together, but it apeared almost as if her legs were somehow facing side ways themselves? I am not quite sure how to explain it. Even with the bandaid she still was not able to stand. Is it just splayed leg, or something more? Thank you! (I refered to her as a she, though she could techincally be a he)

I have had this happen with quail chicks before, it usually has something to do with the flooring of the incubator, if it is not grippy enough, they will slip around and wont be able to stand up. Band aids usually work and so do little rubberbands. Sometimes i put them in a roll of duct tape with a tea towel inside. Usually the others walk all over the chick with bad legs.

If you don't mind, could you give an update to this? Sounds like I may have a chick in the same condition. Feet aren't curled. It appears to be something wrong with her hips.

Hello! The same thing has happened to me and one of our baby chicks. Our little one is only a week old. We have tried for a week now placing the vet tape or a band aid on her to help with the splay leg, but have noticed her little feet are slightly curled and she can not stand. She tries scooting around on the back part of her legs. What can I do to help with this? Any suggestions are welcomed.
