We have had a new batch of chicks since Thursday. They all looked great when we went to bed and the next morning one wa unable to get up. I figured she was sick but has not shown any signs of being sick. She is still eating good and drinking and wanting to be by the other chicks. I looked in a book and think that she may have splayed legs and it showed how you can kind of support them with band-aids. I tried to do this but it didn't seem to help her much. She has sores on the back of her joints from moving around and I am worried that her feet are getting crooked too. Any suggestions on how I can help her?

Sometimes it takes them a day or so to figure out how to move around with the band-aid splint on. If you could post a picture of the chick - that should help us to help you.

Some chicks are just born weaker and sometimes they die from it, there's not much you can do to save them, so that could be the case, too. You can always try a vitamin/electrolyte solution in the water or baby vitamin (without iron) drops for the chick.

Thanks so much for the response. I took the bandage off last night because I didn't think it was working. I will get a picture today and post it - I will also go put the bandage back on.

Thanks to all of you who replied. I tried to take pictures on my phone but they just didn't come out good. I did put the band-aids back on for over a day and was hoping it would work. The chick died yesterday - she was a tough little bird and I thought maybe she would make it but those legs just wouldn't cooperate. Thanks again for the info!
