Spoiled Baby

Swimming with that leg should help the circulation, which may help move the fluids out of the foot. Too bad there is not a comfortable, natural position for runners that props their feet up. (I can just see her lying on her back, nibbling bonbons, with her feet propped up on a pillow

Go with the swimming, and try to be patient. Good that you could get care for her.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will try that warm wrap and also the epsom salts - can they swim in that? or would that be just a soak for the foot?

I would not use the salt either. What works for us, does not necessary work for animals. You can also make your warm wrap with oatmeal. I bet your duck would love to nibble away on that one. The overall idea is to enlarge the arteries with the heat and get the blood flow going. Don't do it more then 5 minutes, because if there is still bacteria in the foot it can also promote their grows and you don't want that. Your duck can also swim in warm water for 5 minutes, if you don't want to do the wrapping part. Overall getting the blood circulation going will make it heal faster.

Wow.... it is a lot of work... but she is worth it. She has an absess going on now on her belly.... I thought she was egg bound but the vet said no - we are going to watch that as the vet did not want to stress her anymore with another surgery - so I suppose the warm bath will help that too. Poor girl....I don't know how she keeps so good natured with all of that going on... I would be an old grump.

I have an 8 week old duck that has trouble walking. He/she (not sure how to tell I'm used to cats and dogs) barely walks. Henry we will call it, gets to the food and water but the other ducks and chickens poop on him and he ends up covered in his own soiling by the end

Of the day. His beak is also a pale pink color not like the other duck his age. If anyone has advice I'd listen. Also i have him a bath today and we have bonded to the point to where he snuggles up to me on the floor and sleeps on my lap. I think I'm gonna have to get diapers so he can stay inside.
