Spoiled. Now what?

They have access to forage, but I think I have the laziest ducks on the planet. They spend 70% of the day lounging inside their pen and come out into the yard occassionally to forage or take a swim.
I actually have to go outside and encourage them to come out to play.
I'll stick to straight crumbles & scratch in the morning and sprinkle some veggies around the yard in the afternoon to encourage foraging. Does that sound ok???

I'd encourage the foraging as much as you can tolerate and not place the ducks in any danger. The natural nutrients they get from plants and bugs and small slimy critters is probably better in their diet. Our tick population is almost eradicated by our flock. It was nothing to pull a tick off daily from us or our dogs. Ducks are amazing animals that know just where to look and catch bugs and pests. Oh, and our yard spider population is also next to zero. I almost feel sorry for them now. Watching ducks fight over worms or spiders or small snakes. Better than anything Hollywood is putting out these days!!!

Our yard is fenced with 60% tree overhang so it's very safe. I wish they would be out there all day. They just seem to prefer inside the 10x15 pen. The door is open from 6:30 am til just before sundown so plenty of hours to forage.

Ok, well, I'll tell the gang the bad news in the morning.
If I don't post on here again, they killed me.
