Sportsman or Dickey? Hatch Rates Compared.

Cabinet Incubators: Sportsman 1502 with the works compared to a Dickey with the works... both have temp and humidity gage, humidity kit, acrylic doors, 3 shelves and a hatching tray bottom ect....

Ok so I had asked a while back if you would choose a Dickey or a sportsman and all the coments were for the sportsman but that is what everyone who comented had... I want to know from you BYCs out there who have used both and which one you like and why... Hatch rates would be great! I was thinking the Dickey was better because it seems it is easier to set the temp and humidity... I'm wanting to buy one of these two and I need help choosing which is best... I need the easiest hands free incubator that will have the best hatch rates.

There isnt enought difference between the two, I would just choose the least expensive one. I think the Dickey is built better, (plywood versus presswood), but the Sportsman has better eye appeal. Well, thats just my opinion.

I would vote for the Dickie. Mr. Dickie gives you personal service and has the parts in stock at all times. You just give him a call or shoot him an email and he'll get them out to you. I have been using a borrowed Dickie for the last couple of months and the stability of the temp and humidity are just unbelievable.

Now, for my use, I decided against buying a cabinet bator because I do so many staggered hatches. Also, I can't stand not being able to see the eggs pipping and hatching. So I decided to build my own fridge-a-bator.

I think I would like to try a Dickie Incubator.. from all that I have read and heard it is so much like a GQF that you can hardly tell them apart..

I have 3 GQF sportsmans and I incubate goose, duck , chicken, guinea, and turkey all at the same time.. If you want to do a study on staggard hatches, try that menu..LOL

I hatch upward of 3000 eggs per year..

I have developed a method of double decking chicken and guinea eggs so that I can almost double the capacity of two of the incubators. the old 1202 does not have the head room for double decking.. but it does have a hatching tray in the bottom, and I have had eggs stacked on top of each other in there also..

I raise the humidity when I need it for hatching, and sometimes stop the turners for the lock-down when there is no room in the hatching tray.. when the eggs that are due are finished hatching I just start up the turners again and adjust the humidity and wait for the next lock-down..

I have and use both and they are very alike but the Dickey's is better built! No particle board so I don't feel loke it is going to fall to pieceses if I have to hose it out after the season. Like Mr. Dickey says, "If it doesn't hatch in a Dickey's, it wasn't going to."
