I guess since it is frying up nicely you just cracked it straight into the pan. I was wondering if you could see the blastodisk or blastoderm (if fertilized) on another section of the yolk or if that spot was possibly it?
I’m also curious as to what the red line is on the edge of the white mass? You obviously don’t have the curious inclination (or maybe just pure craziness) that I do because I would have lit into that thing so fast it’d have made your head spin. Or I suppose the proper saying on BYC would be “faster than a hen on a June bug.”
We can all relate to that speed. Anyway, I am just of the curious dissecting nature I suppose.
You said the egg was about two weeks old, I believe. Do you know if it had been set on by a broody any or possibly just several hens taking turns laying that could have started the incubation process? I don’t know if you have a cockerel/rooster that could have fertilized it or not, but it really looks like the beginning of a blastoderm gone really, really wrong. Be on the lookout for another one of these “spots.” Who knows, another may just appear. And for the love of Pete, if you do find another one, Cut That Thing Open!
There are too many curious minds out here in Chicken Land, or well, maybe it’s just me. Okay, I’ll accept that it’s just me if that’s the case. But I kinda like me!
Thanks for sharing this oddity!
