Spots on comb

Hi there, I noticed your post on this and am having the exact same issue. What did you end up doing? Did it resolve? Is your chicken family pecking each other? If so, has it resolved or did you do something different to help it resolve? I have an Americauna who has the black spots on her comb and so in fear of it being some sort of pox, only because she developed a laryngitis type of symptom as well at the same time, I took her to the Vet. The Vet felt she was just sick with a cold and felt her spots on the comb was from being pecked at. I do have a Wyandotte that picks on her for no apparent reason besides her just being nasty. I have plenty of food and water, they get to free range in my yard (in the summer, all day and in the winter, in the afternoon when it warms up some). My coop is plenty big for 3 girls I would think, 5 foot x 15 foot with hay bales to jump on and their coop roof to jump onto to as well. So I don't know what else I can do.

So I thought I'd see if you did anything to help me figure out what I can do! : ) ! I feel bad for my girl because she's a sweetheart!

Thanks for your time! I hope your problem resolved!

Cheers!
Sandi

Hi,

I occasionally see my chickens have pecking issues during adverse weather when none of the flock wants to come outside. I associate the behavior with lack of space which creates irate chickens. What works best is to provide an environment conducive for chickens to get space from one another. You could expand the coop/run or add more roosting space for the chickens to spread out. I put two old wooden ladders in my coop, which allows the chickens to get even more vertical space on the days they refuse to venture outdoors.

That's a great idea! they have the top of their coop fo "spread out" and I've put some dog crates up there and I've noticed since putting them up there that the bully hen tries to sleep in there along with the alpha hen. I do have hay bales but never thought of the ladder! Great thinking! Thanks!!!!!

It might be frostbite. All my hens have that on there combs. My rooster is okay, though.
I don't think it's that, she has a flat comb and my other gal with that full comb is fine. I feel it's from being pecked on. Thank you so much though!
