spotted a racoon should we worry?

Raccoons out in daylight that exhibit no fear of humans are either sick or very very hungry.

If the critter is sick you have two likely choices rabies or distemper.

Call the wildlife folks or animal control and report what happened.

How very true! Up until I lost a hen to a critter we didn't have a trap; hadn't noticed too much activity other than the occasional opossum that we'd eliminate on the spot. When I found what was left of my hen I declared war and bought a live trap, set it that night, and ....found an opossum in it the next morning. Since that one we've caught 2 skunks, a coon and 3 more opossum in a 3 week period! Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't out there.....
