Is this common? I have one chick out of 11 who seems to be having some problem walking. She'll take a few steps and then stop and lie down on her belly with her feet up under her and her feathers spread out. She doesn't otherwise seem ill. She comes to eat and drink.

The floor of the coop is linoleum with mixed pine shavings and rice hulls. It's not near as deep as I need yet, only about one inch deep. The chicks tend to scratch around in it and leave bare spots on the linoleum and I've seen this chick slipping on it. Nobody else seems to be slipping.

I'm going back out tonight to give her a dose of poly-visol. Her legs don't appear spraddled, but she is having some problem walking any length of the coop without stopping to lay down.

Bump

Well this chick appears fine this morning other than her legs slipping when she walks. She can get a good run going but it doesn't last long. I'm thinking that she might have jumped off the roost and hit the linoleum and maybe dislocated her hip or something. Can anyone direct me to a post that shows how to splint a chick this age? (6 weeks) And will it work to splint her? Will I need to separate her from the others? She has feathered legs too.
