Hi all,
Today I hatched 2 Coturnix quail and noticed one had splayed leg AND curly toes. Is it worth saving the chick (I.e is if genetic or is it a humidity thing) or should I put it out of its misery sooner rather than later. I have been able to fix curly toes in the past but never splayed leg. Let me know what I should do.

Give them 48 hours to see if things improve, the legs can be quite floppy for a bit after hatching, but if it is still an issue, culling is probably your best bet, I’ve tried nursing along a wry neck and a hunchback but ended up culling half sized birds at 6 weeks anyway.

Thank you so much. I usually cull at the first sign of splayed leg as it’s too much hassle to try and fix. So far 2 have splayed let, one had curly toes (which should be an easy fix) and the last one is perfectly healthy. Hopefully the next hatch is a bit better because I swear this always happens 🙄
