I just got my chicks in the mail today(day old). One cant quite walk, or stand up properly. kinda like bambi on ice. I have wood chips for material. he cant seen to controll his legs the right way, but is eating and drinking fine. He kinda hops, then rests. any suggestions?

Maybe if you switch the bedding to Peat Moss? A nice thick layer would prevent it from slipping around. How thick are the shavings?

Just the regular pine shavings. The other 26 babies are fine, its just that one little guy having the problem...

Maybe he was just born that way. I will try to find the page and send it to you. Its like a tiny cast for chick who have spraddle leg.

Give me a minute or two and ill get it to you:)

The legs arent too far apart, but arent like all the regular chicks. I taped them up. He stands up now, but for only a short time. Hopefully this works for him!

your problem sounds familiar, i had a salmon faverolle chick that did that. i went to cvs pharmacy and bought vitamin b,crushed 1 pill up into powder and added it to their starter feed.i also added nutra drench to their water bottle per directions.it took awhile, but now she's a full grown hen and walking, running perfectly.after 1 week,i stopped using the nutri drench,it caused dark diarhrea(sp).i think the vitamin b really helped alot.
