i have a chick tat hatched some time before 5:30 this morning.i noticed that after she dried and fluffed she wasnt up walkink she was waddling on the backs of her legs.i figured it was spraddle so i put the bandaid on.she still wouldnt get up so every so often i put her in a shot glass to make her stand to strengthen her legs(ive done this before with results)i no she was just hatched but i really thought by now she would be getting around more but shes still doing alot of sleeping.any ideas what else i could do or do you all think she just needs more time?
thanks for any advice...

I think you are right and need to treat it. If you search for spraddle leg there are tons of posts that show the bandaid trick and that works!

im already treating it.i was just worried cause she still is up and around yet...
thanks for replying...

CHicks should be able to walk around just fine after a couple hours. Some take a bit longer. It seems to me the longer it takes to get out of the egg, the longer it takes for them to get up. If it continues to scoot or just sit, use the bandaid method. It MAKES them stand.

How long from pip to hatch? The ones that take the full 24 hours to hatch is what I was talking about. The ones that go from zip to hatch in 20 minutes have no trouble. Seems like the longer they are stuck in there the more issues they have. Just my observation.

If you are doing the bandaid and it is up and standing, you are fine. Seriously, I have not yet heard of a chick that didn't respond to that method. Then again I don't know EVERYTHING!

Even with the bandaid?? Maybe it needs to be tighter.... The poofy part should be as close to the inside of the legs as possible.
