Hi everyone. I have two 2.5 week old goslings that I’ve been letting out in a large dog kennel (the black folding wire kind) for grazing during the day while their tractor gets built.

I noticed there was a dip in the ground where they could potentially trip so I went to slide the kennel over a bit so there was no risk in tripping/getting stuck. All was fine until I saw one of the goslings leap over to the part i was moving and her leg (part of the lower leg right above her feet) got caught under the wire for a brief moment. I was able to quickly get her free but I noticed she had a limp afterwards.

I tried to feel the leg for any obvious abnormalities but couldn’t find any. She ran a few circles when the other gosling went for a run around and had a few steps with no limp but shortly after the limp came back. Seems like she’s able to walk and get up and down on her own okay but she’s laying down more than usual.

I put them back into their house with soft bedding and food/water at easy access for her to rest. Appetite is normal and she was standing on both legs when I left them.

Anything I need to keep an eye out for? Anything I can do to help speed up the healing process? Do we think it’s just a sprain? I feel terrible! 😞

Hi,

Don't knock yourself up as you had the best intentions and sometimes our best intentions don't work out. We live and learn. :)

B-Complex helps heal sore muscles. You could just get some Poultry Cell liquid vitamins for their water, and they'd all get a boost, as that's got all the B's in it. If you have some B-Complex, she could have 1/2 of one, crushed up in something she'd eat entirely.

Thank you! When I let them out this morning to their tractor she did her typical run out of the house to come follow me. No limps!
