One of my hens try to fly towards me in the yard earlier today, and landed very hard. Now she is limping and lying down quite a bit. We didn’t notice this thing on the bottom of her foot which we removed. We think it was a rock, or some thing else that formed on her foot overtime. There is one very much like it in the other foot.

Is the only suggestion for a lame chicken to just let it lie down and leave it alone?

My chickens have had those dirt clods too, some chickens are just prone to them I think.

I would put her in a “hospital” kennel if you have one for a day and see how she is tomorrow. Many leg injuries will show a lot of improvement if they are forced to rest for a while. If she doesn’t have to act healthy in front of the flock she might be willing to rest more.

I might need to do that as I do have a smaller coop.

At the moment she is willing to lay on the ground and rest, even with the other chickens near her. This is not uncommon for her because they all tend to do that often on throughout the day.

My main worry is the perch. She will want to get on the perch at night to sleep, but that might not be the best thing for her, especially in the morning if she jumps down. Maybe I can just put her in the coop after dark so she has no other choice but to Stay on the floor
