I have raised 20+ poultry in my brooder. this is the first with sprawl leg, at least I think its sprawl leg. my question is there something i can do to help it or should I put it down? it is a 4 day old Spanish black, one of four that I picked up 4 days ago.

I am new to hatching turkeys, so I don't know if anyone else would recommend this, but it's what I did recently to help a newly hatched poult.

Caveat: Here's the thing, I did this within its first day when all it could do was push itself around in circles. I know that it probably has other health issues, so it will most likely be used for meat if it grows to a decent size.

I made a little "jolly jumper" type sling and hung it in the incubator. At first I had it hanging so that the poult could push off the ground. It kept pushing with the stronger leg sending it in circles once again. I raised it up so that it was no longer touching the ground and could exercise both legs. That worked and by the end of the second day, it could stand and walk.

Here's a pattern for the thing:

i've had excellent luck shackling them. take the good sticky small sized fabric bandaides, use the gause spot around the leg and fold it around, do the other one and stick them together. make sure you do it in a way that the poult would be standing normally. he'll trip and fall a fair bit at first but then he'll get the idea and after 3 days or so(longer if its a bad case) the joints and tendons should be back in place and stronger.
