Hi based in the UK. Our chickens have a gravelled area where they free range and eat bugs etc. It obviously gets poo on it and this year has attracted millions of flies. Has anyone got suggestions for liquid disinfectant that can be used in a sprayer connected to a hose? We have used powder before but the area to cover is too large for just powder.

The coop is cleaned on a very regular basis so it’s not that attracting the flies it’s just the poo covered gravel.

Thanks

Would you consider doing some sort of litter over the gravel, that would probably help, I have very few flies in my runs - other than a few on fresh poops and I've got some areas with (not yet very) Deep litter (the rest is still grass!). I know where mine have pooped on some gravel by the house it isa bit ofa nightmare - hard to pick up. Maybe just add white vinegar - good natural cleaner and flies hate it - you can always add some citrus esseential oils or just fill a jar with orange / lemon / lime rinds - cover in vinegar and leave at least 3 days (up to a couple of weeks) and drain through a coffee filter or cloth and you have amazing natural cleaner.

'Disinfecting' isn't really going to 'clean' the poop that is no doubt stuck with the gravel.
Dry plant material, wood chippings and others, can take care of breaking down the poops.
Removing the gravel might be best if possible.
Pics of the area might help here too.
