Spraying Feral Cats! Ewwwww

Coyote urine sounds like a good, cheap HUMANE option. Much better than reading about killing them or listening to them scream when the coyotes kill them.

Maybe vets don't do this for free since they don't agree with releasing a feral species back into the wild where they wreak havok on things that lived here first and may in fact be protected or endangered. Make no mistake all vets do charity work. You may not see it but trust me you give a free exam to help here and some antibiotics to help there. You have to make choices about who to give it to why give it all to feral cats. There is always someone talking about how selfish vets are, well I gotta tell ya I don't know many filthy rich vets. The few I know were born that way. Trust me when I say spay, neuter, release = BAD IDEA.

Problem with castrating a male spraying cat is that the spray ISN'T urine... cats have these glands in their bum that they purposely burst in order to release that icky stuff. Normally I wouldn't know that but my MIL was convinced that her cat Putter's ... puts grew back after he was fixed because he wasn't a baby when they did the snipping... though, honestly I like that scenario better than self mutilation for the sake of mating. GROSS.

Problem with taking them to the pound is that because they are feral the likelihood of them being adopted is slim to none... particularly in the small window available in most places. In the meantime people who have a nice, but homeless, cat are told there's no room at the in so that cat is abandoned... to become feral. For ALL the animals in the area it's best for these to be disposed of quickly.

Someone mentioned gardens being destroyed... bad enough if you have one cat doing that, but a whole herd is really scary... particularly if you have any gardening preggers in the area... that could cause major problems.

I know none of that is the cat's fault... but it's not a brown recluses' fault that their venom causes me problems... doesn't stop me from stomping the boogers before they can do harm.

If you're okay with just pawning the problem off on your next door neighbor then do the coyote urine... if you want to actually solve the problem then you need to catch and kill, or catch and send to someone who will.

Find out who is feeding them as well. Someone in your neighborhood (because you live in a town) is giving them food, or they wouldn't be there.

Write them a note or knock on the door and ask them to stop.

I was so tired of a neighbor who had something like 9 ferals or maybe they were just all her outdoor cats...spraying my paper, my car, the phonebooks that were delivered, my outdoor furniture...I wrote a note that the next cat on my property would either be caught and sent to an undisclosed kill shelter, or I wouldn't be so fast telling my dogs to leave it alone.

I haven't seen one in months.
