Flies and mosquitoes are driving me crazy around our coops and runs so I KNOW its driving our chickens crazy too. We spray malathion in our garage and around our doors to help keep down on mosquitoes and it seems to help. Would it be safe to spray around the coops and runs with it also?? If so, when would it be safe to let the chickens out for a field trip again??

The youngest of our girls is 22 wks old.

That's a great link, bookmarked!

Rather than malathion, you would be better off hanging convenient 'no-pest strips' in your coop (avoid over food/water). They're made by Black Flag, Vapoona, TSC and other suppliers and contain pyrethins. We are in a mosquito and fly area, the numbers would curl your toes, but our coop is virtually free of them. Safe for birds, eggs.

BAD stuff, and in this day and age we should all know that the fact that something is available does not make it necessarily safe.

I too have great success with simple old-fashioned granny-style flypaper. Available at hardware stores and probably also that place that begins with a W.
