What a bunch of cuties you have! I have always had trouble with having chicks shipped to me. Did all of them come in healthy?

Yes, all are very healthy so far, we had one EE that is a little slow to keep her balance but she eat's like a hog and poops like a horse and fast as lightning too. I was afraid we might lose one in shipping but so far so good, and I cannot get enough of them, TV has nothing to chickvison!

I have to agree with you there.
I always feel like a little kid with the chicks. I can never stop holding and petting them, or even looking at them, and CONSTANTLY spoiling them

We hatched 8 silkies yesterday, and today we got our surprise shipment. . .so now we have 53 assorted chicks, 2 turkeys and 2 ducks.

So far I've separated the big guys from the little guys. I really wish we had a third light so I could separate my bitty silkies from the others.
No names for anything, really I am horrible with naming animals or even telling them apart! :p

I think I might have a couple of roosters myself, but every spring there is a poultry auction/trade at the local fairgrounds, and that is where I find all of my funky breeds and sell my roosters. Try checking craigslist, your local paper, or fairgrounds webpage for info about poultry swaps and auctions.

That is a great idea for a coop! I think I might try that idea for nesting boxes myself! For being one who will turn stuff my family is going to throw away into chicken stuff, I can't believe I never thought of that for nesting boxes.

Yeah....I have 4 three and a half week olds and I think 2 of them are Roos...I have 2 straight run bantams that I worry about too but they were TOO cute to pass up! I just bought 3 more today, 2 sex links and a black australorp...I have chicken fever! I got the last 3 to replace any I might have to give up if they start crowing. I never thought about a chicken swap! That is such a great idea!!

I think they'll both do just fine together then, they both seem very even tempered - I inspect the BO and the silkie once a day, checking the eggs and keeping a head count of the babies. Both of them will gripe and grumble at me, but they've never once shown signs of aggression. The silkie at the most tries to herd the babies into her laying box when I come in their pen to mess with maintenance. The Buff regularly puts up with me messing with her eggs to removed unmarked eggs, but she seems to accept my apologies in the form of a fistful of hay or a few feathers I find laying around to line her box with.

My first chickens and I can't seem to get enough!
1 EE 3 weeks
1 RIR 2 1/2 weeks
1 White Rock 3 weeks
1 White Leghorn 3 weeks
1 Buff Orp 3 weeks
1 BR 2 1/2 weeks
1 Silkie Bantam 2 weeks
1 Cochin Frizzle Bantam 2 weeks
1 Gold Sex-Link NEW
1 Black Sex-Link NEW
1 Black Australorp NEW

And they all are getting along just great! Other than separate sleeping arrangements... LOVE LOVE LOVE these babies...Plus now I am more self sufficient in am emergency...after they are older... Pray for those in Japan!

My chicks!

I got 16 little fuzzy butts on March 9th from TSC, and I got:

2 mystery bantams (Suspected to be Old English Games)
4 Buff Bantam Brahmas (May be Cochins judging by their combs)
3 Silver Laced Wyandottes
3 Gold Laced Wyandottes
And 4 black mystery pullets (I am thinking 3 of them are Barred Rocks)

Their names are:
Jeffy
Frisbee
Trippy
Spanky
Tippy
Nubby
Hammy
Cheesy
Swissy
Squishy
Pinkly
Slappy
Dippy
Zacky
Lefty
Righty

WOW, your naming skills are impressive... I named the four in my first batch and two from my second batch, then I ran out of ideas. The remaining three are all splash Marans. My boyfriend's daughter named one of them Riley but we don't know which one it was so now they are collectively known as The Rileys

Ha ha ha, thanks! We had to make sure all of them ended in a "y" sound. I have no idea why, we just love those names.
My personal favorites are Jeffy, Spanky, and Dippy.
