Spring 2017 first timers post!

Just checking in! Our coop-in-progress/run is coming along swimmingly!

My girls enjoying time in the prefab coop... their temp. home until everything is complete! They officially got moved out of the kiddie pool in the spare bedroom and into this coop on Saturday!

Yesterday we got the window and chicken door (an old doggie door!) put in to the hinged door on the home made coop. We also got all the pallets lined with chicken wire. Next is to add the support beams and roof! We will also be cutting a door in the prefab coop so it will also lead into the run! Then, last, I'll be painting everything to help protect it from the elements!

My chicks are shipping out today from Ohio to California, expected arrival day Wednesday.

I as ready as I can be, my kids made an adorable flyer I just drooped off at the post office, small town no mail delivery everyone knows all the PO employees I know they will call the minute they get here.

Now we are off to Disneyland, kids on Spring break and with chicks coming this is our last chance to get away for awhile.

Just got my first three chicks yesterday, little 2 week old Black Australorp pullets! Little buggers scared the crap out of me, with the way they'd just nod off and sleep anywhere at anytime, in the strangest positions, I thought they were dead (until I found the 'Sleeping Chicks' thread, that helped!

) They were pretty lethargic the first 6 hours in the new place, I kept adjusting my light (must be too hot! must be too cold!) but I think they were just stressed, or I got myself some little party animals, because at 2 am they were bouncing around like they were at a rave!

Oh yes the way they sleep is super strange!!!!
I love it though (after the initial shock of oh my are you dead!'
A few of mine were a little sluggish after arrival from stress but bounced back real quick. Some more than others but we all did soon enough :)
As for arrival I thought mine would be arriving Wednesday (shipped out Ohio to Vermont on Monday that week) and they arrived Tuesday afternoon :) so happy when they arrived. My post office was super great about it.

Oh, yes! They sure sleep weird! We have 14 chickens, all new, we got them pretty recently. 3 amerecuanas, 6 Plymouth rocks, and 4 speckled Sussex, but we're getting 20 isa browns today!!! I know, " 20? Wow!" Any tips for them?
