Spring 2017 first timers post!

I'm guessing you bought a pre-fab coop, I did the same thing!  Its really the WORST kind of false advertising on those things, I can't imagine 6 full-size chicken in my TSC coop, now that I have my 3 six-week old chicks in there!

It is a lot of fun, isn't it??

Actually it is an over built dog house my friend gave me, that I am modifying into a coop. It honestly looks more like a chicken coop than a dog house to me but I am biased. At first I read somewhere that we only needed 2sq ft per bird. When I found out it was 4sq ft, and also imagined all 7 in there, we realized we needed to find new homes for 3 of them. It's ok though we only planned to start with 4 anyway, we just got caught up in the excitement of it all because they are so awesome!

Yay for all the new babies! Mine are getting big already. I can't believe how fast they grow. We should be finishing our coop this weekend and I will post pictures. I think they will need it way before the June date I planned for. My friend and her hubby have chicks too and she told me this week they think they ended up with eight roosters (omg). I plan to drop by this weekend and see if it's true. I hope not, eight is a lot.

So, I need some practical guidance. Is it really necessary to wait until birds are the same size to put them in the coop together?

I have some 8-week old birds in the coop and some five/six weeks olds that are in a brooder but outside. They're kinda getting too big for the brooder and they don't like being separated.

Our chicks are about 5 weeks old now. They have been in their coop for a week now. I love to go outside and sit and watch them. They are so funny! I have 3 Asians and 3 brown ones but I don't remember the name. We purchased them at TSC and I can't wait to start collecting eggs.
