Spring 2017 first timers post!

I have missed this place so much for the past week!! We've had some big milestones, the girls spent their first days playing outside and last night they moved into their coop. We still need to finish the run, but I figured a couple days in the coop was good anyway to get them acquainted with it. They are getting sweeter and sillier every day, and I worry non stop now that I can't just peek into my garage and see them. :/

So I guess with the new format it unsubscribed me from new posts? Anyway, this is me posting to get subscribed again. My chicks are getting so big! Can't wait till my dad visits this weekend and gets the coop all set up so they can move out there!

Some updated pictures. Perhaps someone can lend me their guess on some genders? I keep waffling.

This first one is Cluck Norris. For those that saw the original picture, Cluck was yellow with black spots, now she is a pretty light ginger.

This 2nd is our EE Little Miss Chickpea, and she/he is the only one out of my four EE with a pink/reddish start of a comb, so I am nervous.

The 3rd is our Autralorp, Mamma Cass also nervous as she has begun to develop wattles, but still has a yellowish comb, the same as her twin Cadbury.

Lastly, is my show off RIR, Lucy in her favorite spot on top of the pen.

The run is done. Still working on adding more ventilation in the shed before we use it as the coop. Hope to have ever one in the coop next weekend. The first set of chicks will be eight weeks by them and the second set will be six weeks. I am hoping they all get along.

so glad to be back on here! Silly, I miss it when life is busy; but when I can't post anything.. well, I get :hit

speaking of :hit, while we were on a break.. we are pretty sure we discovered one of our Speckled Sussex is not a Maisy, but indeed a Henry...

IMG_1510.JPG IMG_1329.JPG So his comb is more red than any other of the chicks and his wattles are huge, wiggly and red too! Oh yeah, the other day while in the coop... he is sitting on the roost as you see above, all 16 other girls are milling around, minding their own business and I hear a medium-medium loud cocka-doodle-doo! He stayed sitting as he was, looking like.. what? What's the big deal? All the other 16 girls beat it to a corner and looked around like.. what was that?!? Did you hear that?!!!
IMG_1324.JPG This is our other sweet girl, Dot. She looks nothing like Henry :D

So, tomorrow we will be getting our first (5) baby chicks!!! I have the brooder set up and have been monitoring temperatures throughout the day/making adjustments to ensure everything will be good for their arrival. :weeI'm super excited!!! Here is a picture of their starter home . . .

We successfully merged 2 of our groups that are a week apart. 6 in the first group and 11 in the second group.

How old are your babies?

We are getting our babies on Saturday and I am felling like I am having my first born all over again!! I have so many ideas on the brooder I have had my girlfriends tell me they are getting overwhelmed with all the things I want to do! I am not sure what to expect. We are using a large wire dog crate for the 9 of them. Hopefully they can stay in there until they go out to the coop. I have so many questions though I feel like a have become a crazy chick girl and I don't have them yet even. :barnie

They will be six weeks on Friday 5/19/17, according to what TSC told me their age was when I bought them.

Here is Lucy taking advantage of her favored status. That's a hair tie in my hair, just in case anyone was wondering, lol.
