That's what I have read is they can be bullies...they will be 2 months old before I get my other three so I'm thinking I'm gonna have to keep them separate till the three get big enough to fight back a bit lol

I didn't say bullies. They are sweet. Someone has to be in charge. I haven't had any problems with them and my 2 Buff Orpaningtons, which are known to be docile.

No no I wasn't saying you did sorry that's just what I have read is that they can be mean to more docile breeds but then slot of people said they had no issue...either way I think being 2 months older they are gonna need to be kept away from the others lol

We had a pretty big rain storm this morning, and I am happy to report that the girls made it through just fine, and our Wyandottes are the two unafraid of getting wet. We've been adding compost and yard debris into the run to build up a forest floor/deep litter to prevent a giant mud pit, and I'm super excited to say that it's working! With a few small exceptions (spaces that they have dug out) the floor of the run is spongy and damp as opposed to pools of standing water or mud puddles like the other areas of the yard. I estimate that we got at least 5-6" of rain today. Standing water leading to coop

Merrymouse: Thank you for your kind comments and advice. Concerning the nipple waterers, we are confirmed users BUT in the pictures of the brooder the conventional waterer only was shown. We ALSO had a nipple water bottle in the opposite corner. When we got the 2 speckled sussex they had already been drinking at the Country Store out of a conventional waterer. The good news is after only a couple of hours some of the newbies have found the nipple bottle and are using it, too. As we progress from the brooder box to the coop, we plan on utilizing a 5 gal bucket nipple waterer as the standard for water. Just like the mini perch/roost in the brooder, as the girls grow we will upgrade to more lady like apparatus(apparati?) Ooooo, this is fun. BB

Great set up. So happy I went with the MHP too. I just went out and put the linoleum down in the coop and Im still stumped trying to figure out how best to place the poop boards and roosting bars

Then the circular saw kicked back at me and scared me to death and I couldnt get it to turn back on so I decided to come back inside and watch some baby chick TV instead. Keep me posted on your babies

 Love this the before and after!   such pretty chicks.  Question for you...did your Cream Legbar always have a crest if not when did it start coming in?  I have one and no crest yet.

Well here's an update on that whole mess! We ordered two crested cream legbar and turns out that we only really received one. It had no sign of a crest when she arrived, completely non existent until about two weeks in maybe. Then a little bit of feathery puff filled in and it's grown very quickly. What we thought was or ur other was just really far behind but as the weeks went on (now at five weeks) we noticed a change in color and no crest, plus it's a boy! So I contacted my pet chicken and it turns out they accidnelty sent us either a male welsummer or light brown Leghorn.
Also not all breeds of legbars have crest, but a cream one will always have one and it should show up around two weeks at least.
The other breeds of legbar do not lay Blue eggs though.

I'm a new chick mama. We have 13 babies that are now almost 8 weeks old. I chose all different breeds to help me tell them apart and my barred rock is one of my favorites. First to fly across the coop so we named her Amelia. She LOVES attention. First to run and greet me when I go to the coop. Loves to be held and now flies to my shoulders if I don't give her the attention she wants. She is a sweetie. But she treats everyone that way. I'm not special.
