Awwwwwwwwww...soon! (What a cute picture!)
Gary, that looks fantastic! You're getting so close. Good thing your coop is big enough because you will probably spend a good deal of time just sitting and watching your chicks. They are fun to watch, each have distinct personalities. Is that regular chicken wire? I'm sure you realize that a chick could squeeze through or maybe get caught and hurt. Hard to tell from the picture. You might have to line the bottom with some hardware cloth or even cardboard so they cannot squeeze through. Also I highly recommend the nipple waterers, if you haven't looked into them give them a look. So much easier and Im all about making pet chores easier. Great job and your are getting to countdown time for your chick arrival
Hmm. sorry you got the wrong chick but if it is a welsummer I say lucky you! I have one and she (well hopefully "she") is so beautiful with like a cinnamon coloring. They supposedly lay well and are friendly and lay darkish brown eggs with speckles. Have you seen a mature one? I think they are stunning. I can send you a picture of my baby welsummer if that will help you positively ID your "mistake" chick.Well here's an update on that whole mess! We ordered two crested cream legbar and turns out that we only really received one. It had no sign of a crest when she arrived, completely non existent until about two weeks in maybe. Then a little bit of feathery puff filled in and it's grown very quickly. What we thought was or ur other was just really far behind but as the weeks went on (now at five weeks) we noticed a change in color and no crest, plus it's a boy! So I contacted my pet chicken and it turns out they accidnelty sent us either a male welsummer or light brown Leghorn.
Also not all breeds of legbars have crest, but a cream one will always have one and it should show up around two weeks at least.
The other breeds of legbar do not lay Blue eggs though.
I did a photo shoot today of each chick by itself for comparison after 5 weeks. I'll share if anyone is interested but it's like 32 pics! So i don't want to just post without having a feel if anyone wants to have a gander![]()
Well.....now your just teasing us...do share pleaseHAHA I did the same thing with my first 13 they are going on 5 weeks now. I actually used google sites to do my own website to document my chicken journey I have shared a few pics here but most of them are on my site
