Spring 2017 first timers post!

My vertical nipple was leaking too but it was leaking from where the cap and nipple meet.  I took a rubber band and wrapped it around the part that was leaking and no more leaks!  Try that and see if that works.  The leak was driving me insane at first.

I used white teflon tape to seal the horizontal nipple, no leaks, no problems. The vertical nipples I had a 10 pack so wasn't worried about reusing it - I sealed that sucker in with gorilla glue. Way overkillbut definitely no leaks.

My chicks are just messy drinkers from the vertical. The horizontal nipple they went back to ignoring after a day, they might use it if I took away the fast flowing vertical nipple but the drips are contained to the scrap 1x4 board underneath it so I'm not so worried about It anyway.

Hey,
So I posted a few times last year when I first got interested in chickens, but this spring I've gone ahead and but the bullet- my order from Cackle should be shipping out May 8th. I'm so freaking excited. Just need to finish up the coop renovations and get ready for them. Any other newbies starting out a little late this spring?:p

I'm not getting my chickies til May 15th

So far so good with ours! Got them mid-Feb and they were a week+ old. Moved them out to the coop last weekend and they are thriving! Finding all the places in the coop to perch that I never thought of. There will be some gaps to fill lol!

First timer!! Here are my 8...2 each of Buff Orpintons, Barred Rocks, Gold Laced Wyandottes and Amerercaunas.

Question? Is it normal to have one of the bunch be somewhat picking on the others, pecking and pushing? My one Amerercauna is my rebel child so far.

What a great flock! That's what I would have wanted if I could have had more choice. (You're gonna love those barred rocks! So friendly!!!)
And yes, my little RIR was quite a bully. Seemed to always go for the eyes of the other chicks. I was really worried. But she eventually grew out of it and no one got hurt.

Ours got some time outside in the sun today :) they couldn't be happier!!!

Pardon the small space, we don't let them free range and our larger run isn't done yet. Too risky with all the predators out right now.

Got my little brood! Was in such a hurry to get to the feed store I forgot to grab some free newspapers at the gas station so pardon the lack of bedding figured the shelf liner was still good even without the paper so they had grip. Got too dark outside for me to get it all set up how I wanted will fix it good tomorrow

Also went with the intention to get 8 but when I got there there were only 9 left so I got #9 free with purchase of a couple pounds feed lol
