Spring 2017 first timers post!

I get my first 20 may 11 or 12. (5 or so for my dad) I am in! These are my first chicks. My tenent has 9 layers and I help with their care. We are buying 5 acres end of may so new chicks for us. Addicted and chicken math already happening. Went to order 10, then 15, then 20.

Yup. They call it "chicken math". We have bought 8 acres and are moving in a week. I got it in my mind that I should get a few hens to put in this huge old barn. Went to pick up 2, came back with 10. Went to pick up 6 of another breed, and she gave me 8. My flock keeps expanding! I'm up to 22 now. Lol

Hello!! We just got our first batch of chicks on 4-15-17. We have 14 little McNuggets. They are Buff Orpingtons. We don't know what sex yet. It is fun to see the subtle changes even in the 3 days that we have had them.

My father in law got chickens for his house and let each kid name one...my nephew named his "mcnugget"

I have also starting calling them girls and ladies until we find out otherwise. We don't plan on eating them (I think). They will be layers.

100% newbie here, I actually still can't believe I have chicks. I have no idea how I convinced the hubster, but no one was more shocked than I. On 4/14/17 we picked up 8 chicks, up two from our original agreed upon 6. Two Rhode Island Reds (Lucy and Ethel) Two Australorps (Cadbury and Mamma Cass) and four Ameraucana (Little Miss Chickpea, Sephora, Jean Louise Finch and Cluck Norris). In the midst of building our coop now. This is egg-citing!

Hi, we just got our first chicks on the 15th, born on the 13th! 3 Buff Orpingtons and 2 Barred Rock chicks. We named them April, May, June, July, and August! Does anyone know when we will know for sure if we have girls or boys?

Having new baby chicks for the first time is really hard - I can't concentrate on work! If I'm not at home staring at them in their brooder, I'm at my desk on THIS website! Ahhhh!!!!

Here they are! After three months of waiting I got 5 puff balls in the mail today. Two cuckoo marans, two easter eggers, and one buff silkie. All are hens.
